Overview

Planning a visit to Greece for a holiday, sightseeing, or to spend time with family or friends? The Greece Tourist & Visiting Family/Friends Visa is designed for short-term stays in Greece, whether for tourism purposes or visiting loved ones.

This short-stay visa allows non-EU/EEA nationals to enter Greece for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It falls under the Schengen Visa category and provides access to Greece and the other Schengen Area countries during its validity.

This visa is suitable for individuals who:

  • Tourists: Those traveling for sightseeing, leisure, or cultural activities.
  • Family & Friends Visitors: Individuals planning to visit relatives or friendslegally residing in Greece.

Application Process:

  • Applications must be submitted in person with a pre-booked appointment at a Greece Visa Application Centre (VAC) in London, Edinburgh, or Manchester.
  • Minors under 18 years old must be accompanied by both parents, or provide notarized consent if traveling with one parent or alone.
  • Applications can be submitted from 6 months up to 15 calendar days before the intended travel date.

 Processing Time:

  • Standard Processing: Up to 15 calendar days.
  • Consultation Requirement: Certain nationalities may require up to 3 weeks for additional checks with other Schengen states.
  • Further Review: Some applications may need up to 45 calendar days for detailed processing.
  • Applications from Manchester or Edinburgh: Add 5 working days to account for transfer to London VAC.
  • High-demand periods: Apply well in advance to avoid delays, especially during peak holiday seasons.

 

Documents Required

Basic Requirements:

  1. Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  2. Photographs: Two recent, high-resolution, passport-sized photos (3.5 x 4 cm) following photo specifications.
  3. Passport: Must be:
    • Valid for at least three months beyond the return date.
    • Issued within the last 10 years.
    • Contain at least two blank pages.
    • Accompanied by copies of the identification page and previous Schengen visas.
  4. UK Residency: A UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  5. Proof of Travel: Confirmed round-trip travel tickets, including:
    • Detailed itinerary covering the entire stay.
    • Fully paid return travel tickets with entry and exit dates.

Travel Requirements: (Tourists)

  • Round-Trip Travel Tickets – Confirmed flight bookings with entry and exit dates.
  • Proof of Accommodation – Hotel booking, Airbnb reservation, or invitation letter from a host in Greece with proof of their residence.
  • Travel Medical Insurance – Must cover:
    • Minimum €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation.
    • Be valid for all Schengen countries and cover the entire stay.

Proof of Accommodation (Visitors – family & Friends):

  1. Cover Letter from Host:
    • Explaining the relationship between the applicant and the host.
    • Addressed to the Greek Consulate.
  2. Certified Invitation Letter:
    • Issued by a Greek authority (police, Honorary Consulate, or Citizens Service Centre).
    • Must be recent (not older than 30 days) from the date of application.
    • Clearly states:
      • Host’s name, address, date of birth, occupation, and residence status.
      • Applicant’s name, relationship, and purpose of visit.
      • Duration of stay and accommodation details.
  3. Host’s Proof of Residence:
    • Utility bill, tenancy agreement, or property deed.
  4. Host’s Residency Permit:
    • If the host is a non-EU citizen, a copy of their Greek residency permit is required.

 Proof of Finance:

  1. Applicant’s Bank Statements:
    • Personal UK bank statement for the last three months, showing regular transactions and a minimum balance of £40 per day of stay.
    • Closing balance not older than 30 days from the application date.
  2. If Sponsored by Host in Greece:
    • Sponsor’s bank statements (last three months).
    • Sponsorship letter confirming the host will cover the applicant’s expenses.
    • Proof of relationship (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.).

 Proof of Employment or Student Status:

  1. For Employees:
    • Employment letter from the HR department (original, dated within 30 days), confirming position, salary, and leave approval.
    • Last three months’ payslips.
  2. For Self-Employed Individuals:
    • Tax return form (latest year).
    • Self-employment letter, issued by an accountant, solicitor, or business bank manager (dated within 30 days).
    • Certificate of Incorporation (if applicable).
  3. For Students:
    • Enrolment letter from the educational institution, confirming current attendance.
  4. For Unemployed or Retired Individuals:
    • Proof of pension or benefit payments (original letter not older than 30 days).

 Additional Requirements for Minors:

  1. Birth Certificate: Full unabridged version showing both parents’ names (translated if required).
  2. Parental Consent: A notarized consent letter from both parents if the minor is traveling alone or with one parent.
  3. Parents’ Identification: Copies of both parents’ passports (bio and signature pages).
  4. Proof of Guardianship: If applicable, legal documents confirming custody or guardianship.

Photo Specifications

Applicants must submit two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 3.5 x 4 cm (approximately 1.2 x 1.6 inches).
  • Background: Light, plain background (white or off-white) to ensure clear facial visibility.
  • Colour and Quality: High-resolution, in colour, and printed on normal photographic paper (camera print), preferably non-glossy.
  • Pose: Full face, facing forward with forehead and ears visible.
  • Expression: Neutral, with a closed mouth (no smile).
  • Accessories: No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
  • Age of Photo: Taken within the last 6 months from the date of application.
