Overview

A Short-Stay Type C Schengen Visa for Lorry Drivers allows drivers engaged in international road transport to enter Greece for professional purposes, such as delivering or collecting goods across Schengen states.

Who can apply:

  • Professional lorry drivers employed by international transportation companies.
  • Self-employed drivers operating their own transport businesses.

Application Process:

  • Applications are accepted at the Visa Application Centres (VACs) for Greece in London, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
  • All applicants must submit their application in person and provide biometric data (fingerprints and digital photo).
  • Appointments must be booked online, and biometric data (fingerprints and photos) will be collected.
  • Applications can be lodged up to 6 months before the intended travel date and no later than 15 calendar days before travel.

Processing Time:

  • Standard Processing: 15 calendar days.
  • For certain nationalities requiring consultation: Minimum 3 weeks.
  • In case of further review: Up to 45 days.
  • Manchester or Edinburgh submissions: Allow 5 additional days for document transfers to London.

Documents Required

Basic Requirements:

  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Photographs: Two recent, high-resolution, passport-sized photos (3.5 x 4 cm) following photo specifications.
  • Passport:
    • Valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date.
    • Issued within the last 10 years.
    • Contains at least two blank pages.
    • Include copies of the identification page and any previous Schengen visas.
  • UK Residency: A UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Lorry Driver-Specific Documentation:

  • Driving License:
    • Valid international driving license for lorry drivers.
    • Photocopy of both sides.
  • Vehicle Documentation:
    • Car registration certificate (original and copy).
    • Car insurance policy (original and copy).
    • Proof of roadworthiness (MOT certificate) if applicable.
  • Travel Itinerary:
    • Fully paid round-trip travel tickets (ferry or Eurotunnel) specifying the:
      • Driver’s name
      • Registration number of the vehicle
    • If applicable, provide proof of any other planned Schengen-area trips (e.g., waybills for other destinations).
  • Proof of Professional Purpose:
    • Letter from the National Association of Carriers (Union) of Greece:
      • Signed and dated official letter stating:
        • Purpose of the trips (e.g., transporting goods)
        • Duration and frequency of travel
      • Must be on official letterhead and include the association’s contact details.
    • Written request from the partner company in Greece:
      • Signed, dated, and addressed to the Greek Consulate.
      • Explains the business relationship and outlines transportation needs.
    • Waybill or transport order (CMR): Provides evidence of the transportation route and goods to be delivered.

Proof of Finance:

  • Bank Statements: Applicant’s UK personal bank account statement covering the last 3 months, showing regular transactions.
    • Minimum balance: GBP 40.00 per day of stay in Greece.
  • If sponsored by the employer, the following must be provided:
    • Employer’s sponsorship letter: Confirming the company will cover all expenses.
    • Company’s UK bank statement: (Last 3 months) demonstrating financial capacity.
    • Company registration certificate (Companies House) or equivalent.

Proof of Accommodation:

  • Proof of stay for each trip: This could be:
    • Hotel reservations covering the period of stay in Greece.
    • Company-provided lodging details, if applicable.
  • If the driver will stay onboard the vehicle or use designated truck stops, provide a travel itinerary and list of planned stops.

Travel Insurance (Mandatory):

  • Travel insurance policy copy showing:
    • Applicant’s full name.
    • Coverage for all Schengen states.
    • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for:
      • Medical emergencies
      • Hospitalization costs
      • Repatriation (including death)
  • Insurance must be valid for the entire duration of stay.
  • Applicants insured through a bank must provide a bank letter confirming coverage.

Proof of Current Occupation (if applicable):

For Employed Drivers:

  • Employment Letter (not older than 90 days): Issued by the employer on company letterhead, stating:
    • Job title (e.g., Lorry Driver – International Transport)
    • Date of employment
    • Confirmation of continued employment after the trip
  • Last 3 months’ payslips.

For Self-Employed Drivers:

  • Proof of Business Registration (Companies House Certificate).
  • Tax Return (last filed) or Accountant’s Letter.
  • If applicable, a Solicitor or Bank Manager’s letter confirming self-employment status.

Additional Requirements for Minors (if applicable):

  • Birth Certificate: Full unabridged version showing both parents’ names (translated if required).
  • Parental Consent: A notarized consent letter from both parents if the minor is traveling alone or with one parent.
  • Parents’ Identification: Copies of both parents’ passports (bio and signature pages).
  • Proof of Guardianship: If applicable, legal documents confirming custody or guardianship.

Photo Specifications


Applicants must submit two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 3.5 x 4 cm (approximately 1.2 x 1.6 inches).
  • Background: Light, plain background (white or off-white) to ensure clear facial visibility.
  • Colour and Quality: High-resolution, in colour, and printed on normal photographic paper (camera print), preferably non-glossy.
  • Pose: Full face, facing forward with forehead and ears visible.
  • Expression: Neutral, with a closed mouth (no smile).
  • Accessories: No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
  • Age of Photo: Taken within the last 6 months from the date of application.
