Overview

A Short-Stay Type C Schengen Visa for Study or Professional Training allows individuals to visit Greece for:

  • Short-term academic programs (e.g., summer schools, research projects, or workshops).
  • Vocational training, internships, or skill-building programs.
  • Professional development courses or certification programs.

Who can apply:

  • Students enrolled in a short-term educational program.
  • Professionals attending vocational or theoretical courses for training or certifications.
  • Interns participating in short-term internships or skill-building programs.

Application Process:

  • Applications are accepted at the Visa Application Centres (VACs) for Greece in London, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
  • All applicants, including minors, must submit their application in person.
  • Appointments must be booked online, and biometric data (fingerprints and photos) will be collected.
  • Applications can be lodged up to 6 months before the intended travel date and no later than 15 calendar days before travel.

Processing Time:

  • Standard Processing: 15 calendar days.
  • For certain nationalities requiring consultation: Minimum 3 weeks.
  • In case of further review: Up to 45 days.
  • Manchester or Edinburgh submissions: Allow 5 additional days for document transfers to London.

Documents Required

Basic Requirements:

  1. Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  2. Photographs: Two recent, high-resolution, passport-sized photos (3.5 x 4 cm) following photo specifications.
  3. Passport:
    • Valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date.
    • Issued within the last 10 years.
    • Contains at least two blank pages.
    • Include copies of the identification page and any previous Schengen visas.
  4. UK Residency: A UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Academic or Professional Training Documentation:

  1. Certificate of Enrolment:
    • Issued by an accredited educational institution in Greece (e.g., university, college, or training institute).
    • Must include:
      • Applicant’s name, program title, and duration of study.
      • Institution’s official stamp and signature.
  1. Student Card or Course Certificate:
    • Proof of admission to a short-term academic program or training course.
    • Document must specify the name and nature of the course.
  1. Internship Agreement (if applicable):
    • Signed internship agreement between the applicant and the host organization.
    • Should clearly outline the internship role, duration, and responsibilities.

Proof of Finance:

  • Bank Statements: Applicant’s UK personal bank account statement covering the last 3 months, showing regular transactions.
    • Minimum balance: GBP 40.00 per day of stay in Greece.
  • If sponsored, the following must be provided:
    1. Sponsor’s Passport Copy: (Including signature page)
    2. Proof of Relationship: (e.g., Marriage or Birth Certificate, translated if necessary)
    3. Sponsorship Letter: Signed and stating the travel dates and sponsorship confirmation.
    4. Sponsor’s Financial Proof: UK bank statement for the last 3 months with a minimum of GBP 40.00 per day of stay.
    5. Sponsor’s Occupation Proof:
      • Employment Letter (original, signed, and not older than 90 days).
      • Last 3 months’ pay slips (if employed).
      • Tax return or proof of self-employment (if self-employed).

Proof of Travel:

  • Round-Trip Travel Ticket: Fully paid tickets, showing entry and exit dates from the Schengen area.
    • For travel by car: Provide the driver’s license, car registration, and fully paid ferry tickets.
    • For travel by yacht: Provide the full itinerary, skipper’s passport copy, license, and yacht registration.

Proof of Accommodation:

  • Hotel or University Accommodation Confirmation:
    • Must include the applicant’s name, dates of stay, and address of the accommodation.
  • If hosted by a third party (e.g., a friend, family member, or institution):
    • A joint travel cover letter and the host’s ID and proof of residence.

Travel Insurance (Mandatory):

  • Travel insurance policy copy showing:
    • Applicant’s full name.
    • Coverage for all Schengen states.
    • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for:
      • Medical emergencies
      • Hospitalization costs
      • Repatriation (including death)
  • Insurance must be valid for the entire duration of stay.
  • Applicants insured through a bank must provide a bank letter confirming coverage.

Proof of Current Occupation (if applicable):

For Students:

  • Recent original letter from the current educational institution (not older than 30 days), confirming:
    • Full-time enrollment status.
    • Course details and expected completion date.

For Employed Applicants:

  • Employment Letter (signed, stamped, and issued within the last 30 days), including:
    • Employer’s contact details.
    • Job title and salary.
    • Confirmation of leave of absence for the trip.

For Self-Employed Applicants:

  • Proof of Business Registration (Companies House Certificate).
  • Tax Return (last filed) or Accountant’s Letter (signed, stamped, and issued within the last 30 days)
  • If applicable, a Solicitor or Bank Manager’s letter confirming self-employment status.

Additional Requirements for Minors (if applicable):

  1. Birth Certificate: Full unabridged version showing both parents’ names (translated if required).
  2. Parental Consent: A notarized consent letter from both parents if the minor is traveling alone or with one parent.
  3. Parents’ Identification: Copies of both parents’ passports (bio and signature pages).
  4. Proof of Guardianship: If applicable, legal documents confirming custody or guardianship.

Important Notes:

  • Visa Fee: Applicable unless exempt based on bilateral agreements.
  • All documents must be submitted in original with one photocopy, and translations are required for documents not in English or Greek.
  • Personal appearance for biometric submission is required unless exempted by the Greek Consulate.
  • The Greek Consulate reserves the right to request additional documents or an interview.

Photo Specifications

Applicants must submit two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 3.5 x 4 cm (approximately 1.2 x 1.6 inches).
  • Background: Light, plain background (white or off-white) to ensure clear facial visibility.
  • Colour and Quality: High-resolution, in colour, and printed on normal photographic paper (camera print), preferably non-glossy.
  • Pose: Full face, facing forward with forehead and ears visible.
  • Expression: Neutral, with a closed mouth (no smile).
  • Accessories: No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
  • Age of Photo: Taken within the last 6 months from the date of application.
