Overview

A Short-Stay Type C Schengen Visa for Holders of Diplomatic Passports allows official government representatives, diplomats, and public officials to travel to Greece for official duties, conferences, delegations, or intergovernmental events.

Who can apply:

  • Diplomatic passport holders traveling for official purposes.
  • Members of official delegations attending meetings, conferences, or events.
  • Government representatives on official assignments.

Application Process:

  • Applications should be submitted directly at the Embassy/Consular Office of Greece in London, unless otherwise instructed.
  • Diplomatic passport holders are exempt from paying the visa fee.
  • Minors under 18 years old must provide additional parental consent documents if traveling alone or with one parent.
  • Applications can be lodged up to 6 months in advance, but not later than 15 calendar days before travel.

Processing Time:

  • Standard Processing: Up to 15 calendar days.
  • Special Cases: Up to 3 weeks if inter-Schengen consultation is required.
  • Further Review: May take up to 45 days in complex cases.
  • For submissions from Manchester or Edinburgh: Allow 5 additional days for document transfers to London.

Documents Required

Basic Requirements:

  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Photographs: Two recent, high-resolution, passport-sized photos (3.5 x 4 cm) following photo specifications.
  • Diplomatic Passport: Must be:
    • Valid for at least three months beyond the return date.
    • Issued within the last 10 years.
    • Contain at least two blank pages.
    • Accompanied by copies of the identification page and any previous Schengen visas.
  • UK Residency: A UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Official Documentation for Diplomatic Purposes:

  • Verbal Note (Note Verbale): An official letter issued by:
    • The Embassy or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country, or
    • A relevant intergovernmental organization, confirming:
      • Applicant’s full name, designation, and passport details.
      • Purpose of the visit (e.g., official meeting, conference, or assignment).
      • Duration of stay and travel itinerary.
  • Invitation Letter from Greece:
    • Issued by the hosting intergovernmental organization, government body, or event organizer.
    • Must be on official letterhead, stamped and signed, and should include:
      • The name and position of the applicant.
      • The purpose, dates, and location of the official event.
      • Contact information of the organization.
  • Confirmation of Delegation Membership (if applicable):
    • An official document or letter confirming that the applicant is a member of an official delegation attending an event within the Schengen area.

Travel Insurance (Mandatory):

  • Travel insurance policy copyshowing:
    • Applicant’s full name.
    • Coverage for all Schengen states.
    • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000for:
      • Medical emergencies
      • Hospitalization costs
      • Repatriation (including death)
    • Insurance must be valid for the entire durationof stay.
    • Diplomatic passport holders may be exempt from this requirementif covered under a government or institutional insurance plan.

Proof of Accommodation & Travel (if applicable):

  • Accommodation Proof:Hotel reservation or confirmation from the event organizer providing lodging.
  • Travel Itinerary:
    • Round-trip flight ticketsor travel confirmation.
    • Travel programfor the entire stay in Greece.

Proof of Current Status (if applicable):

  • Official Employment Certificate:Issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Government Department confirming the applicant’s diplomatic role.
  • Government ID or Diplomatic ID:Copy of official identification from the applicant’s government.

Additional Requirements for Minors (if applicable):

  • Birth Certificate: Full unabridged version showing both parents’ names (translated if required).
  • Parental Consent: A notarized consent letter from both parents if the minor is traveling alone or with one parent.
  • Parents’ Identification: Copies of both parents’ passports (bio and signature pages).
  • Proof of Guardianship: If applicable, legal documents confirming custody or guardianship.

Important Notes:

  • Visa Fee:Exempt for holders of Diplomatic Passports.
  • All documents must be submitted in original with one photocopy, and translations are required for documents not in English or Greek.
  • Personal appearancefor biometric submission is required unless exempted by the Greek Consulate.
  • The Greek Consulate reserves the right to request additional documentsor an interview.

Photo Specifications

Applicants must submit two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 3.5 x 4 cm (approximately 1.2 x 1.6 inches).
  • Background: Light, plain background (white or off-white) to ensure clear facial visibility.
  • Colour and Quality: High-resolution, in colour, and printed on normal photographic paper (camera print), preferably non-glossy.
  • Pose: Full face, facing forward with forehead and ears visible.
  • Expression: Neutral, with a closed mouth (no smile).
  • Accessories: No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
  • Age of Photo: Taken within the last 6 months from the date of application.
